BANDITS-MAGES<\/strong> receives artists John SANBORN<\/strong>, pioneer of video creation and Pascal LI\u00c8VRE<\/strong>, painter, performer and videographer.<\/span><\/p>\n

Become regular inhabitants of the Friche Antre-Peaux, they go one and the other, from April 19 to 22<\/strong>, take us in an original creation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pens<\/span><\/b>\u00e9es Al\u00e9atoires <\/span><\/b>is a collage of variations and evolutions \u2013 singular gestures and simple thoughts \u2013 that describe a possible tomorrow. Rooted in the power of the individual and exhibited in a fleeting and metaphoric manner, we will discover how small the future will be.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]\n

Every BIG picture is composed of smaller parts.<\/span><\/p>\n

The future will express itself in the same way \u2013 through changes to each of us, and those we bring to the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pens<\/span><\/b>\u00e9es Al\u00e9atoires <\/span><\/b>is a collage of variations and evolutions \u2013 singular gestures and simple thoughts \u2013 that describe a possible tomorrow. Rooted in the power of the individual and exhibited in a fleeting and metaphoric manner, we will discover how small the future will be.<\/span><\/p>\n

Short vignettes shift between moments of \u201cthinking\u201d and moments of demonstration. There is no narrative, but a clear sense of pressure and acceptance \u2013 that the future is coming, soon. And we will have to be strong to ensure that we build a better tomorrow.<\/span><\/p>\n

The cast made off is an ensemble of dancers\/performers and musicians, standing in for all of humanity, while representing the individual in the course of time. The work is structured as a dense mix of thoughtful<\/i>scenes and scenes of intense activity<\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the thoughtful<\/i>scenes, a figure is seen, and their inner thoughts a narrative voice \u2013 while a subtitle reflects a slightly different thought. These represent our ephemeral thoughts and wishes \u2013 gone almost as quickly as they occur.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the activity<\/em>scenes, members of the ensemble activate a metaphoric glimpse into the future. These are recorded in the studio, on the street, and in locations throughout Bourges. Here are some examples:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • A pile of clothes on the street erupts and dancers emerge from the pile, tossing the clothes everywhere.<\/li>\n
  • As if leading a demonstration, the ensemble, with instruments and megaphones, attempts to lead the public \u201cto the future\u201d, while reversing directions telling us that they are not sure in which direction the future lies.<\/li>\n
  • At the end of a long hallway, the ensemble is chanting a song about the future. The camera moves towards them as they get louder and louder, ending up almost in their mouths.<\/li>\n
  • Pre-recorded video of the dancers bodies is projected back onto their bodies, so that we cannot tell which is real and which is a memory.<\/li>\n
  • A dense group of hands (bodies and arms concealed by black cloth) clutches pictures of loved ones, and passes them from hand to hand.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Beneath the montage is a structure of topics, riffs on the future of what we now consider essential to living. This structure is never revealed, but allows Pens<\/strong>\u00e9es Al\u00e9atoires\u00a0<\/strong>to expand and contract in the mind of each viewer.<\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]\n
